July Challenges: I challenge you to prioritize yourSELF.
BONUS CHALLENGE MONTH!!

Challenge #1: Play hookie for one day this month.

The rules are simple:

1) It has to be a day you’d normally work.

2) You can’t look at work the entire day.

3) You have to unplug completely; put those devices away (unless you’re taking pictures).

4) You have to do something you normally don’t have time to do (this can include things such as: do absolutely nothing, movie marathon, spa day, go fishing, read a book outside in your hammock, take a bubble bath, go to the beach…or lake…or river…find water, tend your garden, go for a drive and have a picnic in nature, etc.).

Challenge #2: Schedule your personal time with as much accountability as your professional time.

→Self time scheduled, at least once a month. Self time can include a wide range of activities; spa day, going for a hike, working on that novel you started a couple years ago, writing a new song, painting, reading, meditating, having a movie marathon, and so on. The important thing to focus on is that you take time dedicated to only YOU. Spend some time with yourself alone; give yourself space, love, and time.

→Ensure you take a minimum of 2 days off a week. This may seem like common sense to most people, but life has a way of completely consuming our time when we need the break the most.

→Family & spouse time scheduled at least once a month. For your spouse, or significant other, it is important to schedule at least one date night (out of the house, or kid-free in the house) a month to reconnect with each other beyond the daily roles you both have to embody, and back to the roles of your relationship. For your family, blood or chosen, it is important to carve out time to stay connected, and rejuvenate your relationships regularly. Family is a privilege, not a right. Nurture these dynamics with everything you’ve got, because they are the ones that will lift you up and carry you through your hardest moments.

Stretch of the month:  Standing Half Forward Bend - this pose stretches the front torso, strengthens the back and improves posture, and stimulates the belly. Click the (external) link to learn more, or simply google "Standing Half Forward Bend"!

Wellness tip of the month: Boredom VS Burnout. We often associate boredom with having nothing to do, but that’s not always the case. Many times, we have plenty to do or are even doing it, but the task at hand does not stimulate our minds. It may be repetitive or not challenging enough, causing frustration and distraction. Alternatively, the task may be incredibly stimulating, but you're already facing burnout and end up feeling overstimulated and unproductive. In the moments of burnout, the answer is easy and unwavering; STOP and rest (there are seven types of rest). In the moments of feeling bored, the first step is to check in with yourself. Are you bored with the task because you've been working on it too long without a break? Is it not stimulating your brain for your current mood? Are you hungry, or allowing other external distractions to influence you? Regardless of your answers, taking a break to do something else to meet your brain where it is will be incredibly helpful to aid you in a reset. Set a 15 minute timer and play phone games, or go for a walk, or call a loved one, or even see if another task on your list resonates more with you in the moment. Whatever you choose, just break up the task a bit by giving yourself breaks and opportunities to pivot. Progress is progress, regardless of how it comes about.

"This isn’t a time to break yourself, it’s a time to build yourself." - Cole Crum, Crum Consulting Founder
